Pad 4 Her
Our Pad 4 Her program focuses on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and providing vulnerable school going girls in urban, peri urban and rural areas with Menstrual Hygiene classes by a medical professional provided by the Ministry of Health as well as Menstrual Hygiene kits consisting of sanitary napkins, underwear, and soap.
This project targets young girls at Government ran schools aged between 11-18 years of age that do not have access to Menstrual Hygiene products due to their social economic background's. Such vulnerable girls find themselves in the unfortunate position of having to use unsafe and unhygienic not to mention unhealthy alternative options to sanitary pads such as tissues, old cloth/rags or newspaper.
We find this to be unacceptable hence why this project was launched in 2016.
The aim of the project is to increase children's attendance rates at school that find themselves in this situation as well as improve their academic performance overall over a sustained period of time due to the fact that they no longer miss lessons and classes due to a very natural bodily function such as menstruation.
At the same time this project also addresses the health risks of improper Menstrual Hygiene Management through workshop classes facilitated by a Ministry of Health professional
This project currently runs in Southern Province and Lusaka Province respectively using the following two approaches:
